ON SATURDAY, APRIL 5, VANCOUVER VOTERS WILL ELECT TWO CITY COUNCILLORS
Who can vote?
To be eligible to vote, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old on election day, April 5, 2025
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Have lived in BC for at least six months
immediately before registration day
- Live in Vancouver, no minimum days required
- Not be disqualified by law from voting
Property owners who don't live in Vancouver may still be eligible to vote. Visit https://vancouver.ca/your-government/non-resident-property-electors.aspx to learn more.
Special notes
- Permanent residents cannot vote
- University of British Columbia/University Endowment Lands residents are not eligible to vote in this By-election
ARE YOU REGISTERED?
If you are registered on the most current available Provincial list of voters prepared under the Election Act, then you are automatically on the Vancouver Voters List. If you are not registered, you can do so when you vote.
If you are registering to vote at a voting location, you will be asked to complete and sign a registration form and show two pieces of identification that establish your residence and identity, at least one must include your signature. The following documents are examples of acceptable ID documents:
- Band membership card or Certificate of Indian Status
- BC Driver's Licence
- BC Identification Card (BCID)
- BC Services Card
- Canadian Citizenship Card
- Canadian Passport
- Debit or credit card
- Government cheque or cheque stub
- Old Age Security Identification Card
- Prescription medication containers
- Property tax assessment/notice
- Social Insurance Number Card
- Student card
- Utility bill
You can also swear a declaration if you have only one piece of
identification.
If you have no fixed address
Register by providing a general location (example: intersection
names) or the address of a shelter or social agency you use in
Vancouver.'

Non-Resident Property Electors (NRPEs)—voters who have owned property in Vancouver for more than 30 days but are not resident electors in another BC municipality—may register at the time of voting.
NRPEs must bring proof of ownership and, if applicable, the Consent of Registered Owners for Non-Resident Property Elector Registration form. These forms can be found and completed in advance at vancouver.ca/nrpe.

Voting in Advance
There will be two advance voting days for the 2025 by-election—March 26 and April 1. All voters can vote at Vancouver City Hall, 453 West 12th Avenue, from 8 am-8 pm.
Voting on Election Day
Saturday, April 5, 2025, is Election Day.
From 8 am-8 pm, Vancouver voters can vote at any of the 25 voting locations across Vancouver. See the list of voting locations find your nearest voting location below.
Vote by Mail
If you are an eligible voter in Vancouver, you can vote by mail. Visit our vote by mail webpage at https://vancouver.ca/election/2025/vote-by-mail.aspx for all the details.
Who can use it?
Anyone—if you can't or don't wish to vote in person
Apply: March 3-24 at noon for a package to be mailed to you at https://vancouver.ca/your-government/2025-by-election.aspx, by calling 3-1-1 (if you are a registered voter), or visiting the Election Office (305 West 8th Ave) Ballot delivery: Mailed out (or available for pick-up) starting March 18.
Return Deadline: Must arrive by April 5 (community centre drop boxes close at 5 pm; City Hall/Election Office closes at 8pm)
